Our Mission
Our mission states that “we are a theologically diverse and accepting
church where all who are on a spiritual journey can find encouragement,
support and room to grow.” The diverse skills and experience of the people
in our church make up the gifts of our congregation.
Our ministry is a shared ministry. We are all engaged in and responsible
for the ministry – not just the Pastor, Associate Pastor, and the Session,
but each member of the congregation. We strongly value participation and
leadership by lay persons. In addition, we have an unusually high number
of ordained ministers in our congregation who enrich our church with their
spiritual guidance.
Our church is a dynamic church. Long-time members remind us of valued
church tradition. They create a space for and welcome new members, thus
reforming and reinventing our church program, keeping it a lively and spiritually
rich environment.
Our membership is made up of different kinds of families. There are single-
and two-parent families, families of mixed races, gay and lesbian families,
some with children, as well as single members of all ages. The congregation
has a mixed religious background from Presbyterian and other Protestant denominations
to Roman Catholicism to several who grew up in Judaism. We value these gifts
of diversity.
Our church is a church active in social justice. We are blessed with many
members worked with mission programs both internationally and locally. These
members bring their personal experience to the ministry of our congregation.
They lead us to reach out to communities such as Africa, Guatemala, and
locally, to Latino migrant farm workers, to find out how we can learn
from them, and help them in their struggle.
Our people are our gifts.
